If you've been around me the last few months, you may have heard me talk about a new mix series that I wanted to bring out. Well, here it is - "Classic". I wanted this series to commemorate music of the past in a "d-smooth way" - ha - with each mixtape having a theme.

The "Music of Fallen Artists" theme - the first installment - actually came to me after I heard of the passing of Heavy D. I got the idea and was sold on it, but things just got really busy with work life/family balance and I just held off on making this mix. Then something happened that really shook my family and I's life around right before Christmas. My grandmother passed away very suddenly. This sad event - though bringing my family together in the city, was tough for my family and I and really set my new year off on shaky ground. My motivation started to decline especially with new clients and more work coming on board for my freelance business. Though some would say this is good news - and it totally was good news for my business, it really didn't help my release some of the stress I had built up inside.

Now I've never been really open to my feelings - just ask my wife :) But what I do know is that any time I do get this way, I need to do something creative with music to express it. It just seemed fitting to do something like this, now, especially with the recent passing of Etta James, Jimmy Castor, Heavy D, the death anniversary of Big Pun, Biggie in March, and J.Dilla's bday this week. A mix to commemorate these artists and their great music, and in a way, for me to creatively commemorate my late grandmother. So, I bring to you - "CLASSIC - A tribute to fallen artists"
